I visited the Marathon County courthouse on September 11, 2017 – it was the third courthouse I had visited on this beautiful Monday morning as I took the long way home from Door County. I hadn’t been in Wausau for many years so I don’t really have any useful memories of the city, or even Marathon County.
The courthouse is very striking and very unusual for a 1950s Wisconsin courthouse. I walked around downtown for a while after photographing the courthouse and saw the downtown park being set up for the International Wisconsin Ginseng Festival which was held later in the week. I also made a quick stop at the Wausau Center which is a large indoor shopping mall just a block or two from the park and also from the courthouse.
- I was able to park pretty close to the courthouse and the Wausau Center
- The Battle of the Bulge Memorial
- A memorial for those who served in World War I
- The front of the courthouse from the southwest corner
- Memorials for World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War
- The front of the courthouse is so large that I had to take three photos to capture all of it. This is the west side.
- And this is the main entrance. I’m not sure if it’s really used anymore; the parking areas are located on the other sides of the building.
- This is the east side
- The Civil War Memorial
- The Hmong – Lao Memorial on the east side of the building
- The front of the building from the southeast corner
- A view of the entire front of the courthouse
- The main entrance
- The entrance to the county jail
- I find the architecture of the courthouse quite appealing.
- At the big park downtown
- They were setting up for the Gingseng Festival
- It is an amazing open space in the heart of downtown Wausau.
- Decorations for the Ginseng Festival just outside of the Wausau Center mall
