Here are some of the references and resources that I’ve been using to build the web site.
Web sites:
- List of Wisconsin counties from Wikipedia
- County maps from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation
- Travel Wisconsin: the official travel & tourism site for Wisconsin
- Wisconsin Local and County Histories from the Wisconsin Historical Society
- Wisconsin Court System: Circuit Court web sites
- State and County Maps of Wisconsin. This site shows the changing county boundaries in Wisconsin by year. It’s really pretty interesting.
- The Wisconsin Historical Markers blog. This is a similar project to mine, but on a much larger scale. It is an awesome site and I highly recommend it.
- List of Wisconsin courthouses on the National Register of Historic Places from Wikipedia
- List of Wisconsin rivers from Wikipedia
Books:
- Wisconsin’s Historic Courthouses by Marv Balousek and L. Roger Turner, published by Badger Books LLC;1 edition (October 1, 1998). This is a good survey of Wisconsin’s county courthouses; some counties are covered in great detail and others not so much. The authors also cover some of the older courthouses which have been demolished. It’s a very nice book and has the advantage that Mr. Turner is a much better photographer than I am.
