Dunn County was created in 1854 from land that had been part of Chippewa County. The state legislature named the new county after Charles Dunn who had been the chief justice of the Wisconsin Territorial Supreme Court from 1836 until Wisconsin became a state in 1848.
Menomonie is the Dunn County seat. The city is named after the Menominee Native American tribe. Menomonie was incorporated as a city in 1882 and since 1891 has been the home of what is now called the University of Wisconsin Stout.
The courthouse is located at 800 Wilson Ave in Menomonie.
