I visited Kenosha on Sunday May 22, 2016. I arrived at the courthouse just before noon. The courthouse is quite a distinctive structure with its classical facade. Thankfully there are no towers looming over it, and no additions have been grafted onto it either. The newer county office building and public safety buildings are not directly connected to the courthouse but are adjacent or across one of the side streets.
Across 56th Street is the Civic Center Park. It’s very nice. The Dinosaur Discovery Museum is on the west side of the park. The post office building and Reuther Central high school complete the other sides of the park.
After taking pictures, I drove a few blocks toward the lake shore to see Harbor Park. Here there is the Civil War Museum, the Kenosha Public Museum and a lot of sculptures on the Harbor Park walkway. Across the harbor channel is the Kenosha History Center and Simmons Island Park which has a beach. Plenty of folks were out sunbathing but no one was going in the water – it was just a little too cold.
