There is a monument to the French explorer Jean Nicolet, just off of Highway 57 at Wequiock Falls County Park, which is a few miles northeast of Green Bay. When I was very young, the statue was located farther north, though still in Brown County, and the wayside was much nicer and had a good view of the bay. However access to the previous site was cut off when Highway 57 was expanded to four lanes of traffic, so the statue was moved to Wequiock Falls. I believe that the move was done in July 2009.
The statue was paid for by contributions from Wisconsin school children and was set up in 1950, along with a historical marker commemorating Nicolet’s landing at Red Banks. Both the statue and historical marker were moved to the Wequiock Falls location, which is about a mile from Red Banks.
